Writing Again!

April 25, 2013 in Family Fun

It seems like it has been an eternity since I wrote on my blog and well…it has. Since August 2012. It is a new year and everything. I promised myself that I wouldn’t give up on blogging though so here I am. I have a bit of an excuse. We started house hunting after my husband got a promotion back in March 2012 and after nine, Yes NINE long months we finally found the house that was right for us. We put an offer on the house in November and closed on December 12, 2012. That’s right 12-12-12, crazy huh? Needless to say we had a chaotic Christmas. We managed to move into our new house just before Christmas and even managed to pick up a Christmas Tree. We celebrated Christmas in our first home surrounded by boxes waiting to be unpacked and excited boys waiting for Santa. So my reason for not writing for so long is the seemingly never ending house hunt, the move, and finally settling into our new home. Now that I am back to the organized chaos I decided it was time to get back to my passion. I have new goals for my life and the life of my family and hope that you will follow on our journey to plan menus, family fun activities, and toning up my body to energize my life. Here we go!

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

August 14, 2012 in Confessions of a Sleep Deprived Mom

A year or two ago I was up early, and I mean early with my first son Christopher. It was the weekend and Daddy was sleeping and Little Christopher and I were scanning through the early morning TV schedule, which is not impressive let me tell you. The schedule usually includes lots of infomercials and people trying to sell something to us poor sleep deprived moms. Who else would be up at 5 am on the weekend?! Well, long story short I came across a show with Dr. Daniel Amen promoting his book “Change Your Brain Change Your Life”. I settled into watching it thinking that it might be somewhat interesting, but still not having much hope for it’s content. Surprisingly enough Dr. Amen seemed to know what he was talking about and even better seemed credible. Who would have thought that I would be pulled in by someone trying to sell something on the TV. I am NOT an easy sell. I came into the show about halfway through and didn’t catch everything,  but the ideas sounded interesting to me. I wrote down the name of the book and looked it up on Amazon and put it on a list of books to read. Now that I entertain two young boys I find myself looking for ways to change my own bad habits and things that seem so ingrained in me. I remembered the book and decided I would borrow it from the library before committing to buying it. I picked it up yesterday and read the introduction and the first chapter between last night and today. So far I am glad that I picked it up, I have yet to get into the real meat of the book, but as I go along I hope to gain some insight into my behaviors and the behaviors of my kids and husband (shh…we won’t tell him just yet) Since I have trouble finishing books that I pick up I am writing a review of the book to see what I can do for my own brain and my own life. One of the problems I know that I have is focusing on one thing at a time. Case in point, I picked up two parenting books at the same time as this book with little hope of having enough time to read all of them. But here goes anyway. I have to start somewhere right?
